TWO WEEKS LEFT FOR NSW HIGH SCHOOLS TO ENTER 2015 GALLIPOLI SCHOOL TOUR BALLOT Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Victor Dominello has today encouraged NSW high schools to submit an online Expression of Interest for the 2015 Gallipoli School Tour Ballot before the 27 August deadline. Mr Dominello said 175 high schools had already submitted their EoI and a further 120 had started the application process. “With a little over two weeks left before the ballot closes there are approximately 580 eligible high schools across NSW which are yet to enter. “I strongly encourage all eligible schools, with students in years 10 to 12 next year, to put their school community in the running to be part of this unique opportunity. “25 schools will be drawn from the ballot being held on 1 September and each will then invite students to submit a written or visual piece of work on a topic related to the Centenary of Anzac for assessment. “A panel of five school and community representatives will shortlist candidates who will then be invited to present their work in an interview setting. Each school will nominate four students following this local selection process. “A total of 100 students and 28 supervising teachers will be chosen to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime tour and they will be announced publicly in December. “The ballot has been designed to ensure fair representation between all schools – government and non-government as well as across metropolitan and regional areas. “Schools can apply individually or in local groups of up to four, giving them an equally opportunity to take part, regardless of size or location,” Mr Dominello said. The NSW Gallipoli School Tour will depart for Turkey in mid-April 2015 and will last for approximately seven days, culminating with students attending the Centenary of Anzac Dawn Service at Gallipoli on 25 April. Schools can submit an Expressions of Interest for the tour at the NSW Centenary of Anzac website: veterans.nsw.gov.au/centenary/gallipoli-2015-school-tour/.
