TWO reasons I am sharing this today… When I cant be active I am like a caged animal. Truly. Having a sore ankle really cramps my style but working with Matt Rutkowski and the team at Crossfit Renovate helps; they too understand an athletes way of thinking (we are stubborn) and have the experience to adjust workouts to accommodate. We are careful to limit/omit any hyperextending, impact, jump, twisting etc. movements as I continue to pamper and baby my bum ankle. SECONDLY (and we were talking about this today): over the years I have had clients insist on exercises that target the abdominals (crunches etc). Even if they had 100+ pounds to lose, they needed to end their workouts with a zillion sit-ups or some form of them….see what I am doing in the vid?? These will burn a heck of a lot more calories, incorporate more muscle groups and create a lean and mean physique!! Take those 5-10mins youve reserved for abs and do something DYNAMIC and COMPOUND. AND -- I will share a secret: RARELY (VERY VERY RARELY) will you see me EVER isolating my abs (excluding plank like/core like movements). I keep good form when working out, get in my cardio and eat clean. If I hit them specifically once a quarter via small crunch like movements Ill eat my hat :)
