We are the experts regarding Texas animal issues; not Humane Society of U.S. nor their Texas arm Texas Humane Legislation Network. Thanks to our Dallas/Forth RPOA Chapter Chairmen, Martin Kralik and Jonathan Elledge, and their volunteers: Kitty Dieterich (our only cat person!), Jolene Davis with her Poodle Cliff, Diana Jones who substituted for Rita Rice and brought Ritas gorgeous Borzoi Barnabus on Sunday! Martin arrived at the Convention Hall Saturday loaded down with lunch/drinks for everyone as it was a long day - from 9 AM until 9 PM - but well worth it! We handed out educational flyers, including a Fact Sheet on HB 1451 describing our upcoming effort to repeal and replace this HSUS legislative agenda; two AKC flyers (Where did the dogs go? and Can You Imagine A World Without Dogs?). Other flyers were: Animal Welfare vs Animal Rights, the Guardian word instead of dog owners Flyer, and a Fact Sheet on HSUS and their Agenda 21 Connection. The Texas Humane Legislation Network Booth was directly across from RPOA, but was often unattended or only had one person there. We had the dogs, people, candy, colorful pictures, flyers, and information to attract convention goers, and then they stayed to talk about their own pets. This gave us an opportunity to go into what we do and why we do it. Jonathan even spoke with one interested newspaper reporter. Some persons took flyers and came back by the booth later, saying I had no idea! and dropped something in our Donation Jar. We collected almost $100 but fundraising wasnt the purpose of this booth and we didnt push for donations. Our total booth expense for this convention was $631.60 ($500 for space and $131.60 for two extra chairs). We had flyers left over from the Republican State Convention, which was much more expensive with a total cost of $3,060.28. We havent begun to recover that cost yet! But none of this could have happened without all our great volunteers! Our appreciation again to Elizabeth Lane, Stephanie Gladney and Carol Houlihan, who also staffed the Republican Convention Booth with some of those listed above, but couldnt make this one. These two state political conventions kicked off our year-long Campaign Countdown for the upcoming 6 month State Legislative Session ending June 1st, 2015. And we couldnt have asked for a better opening act! Stay tuned as theres much more to come.
