Tafadzwa Macheso’ in botched car deal Sungura musician Alick Macheso’s ex-wife Fortunate (Tafadzwa) Mapako is involved in a botched car deal and is fighting with a local car dealer who alleges that she (Tafadzwa) owes him money for the purchase of a Renault Leticia vehicle. The vehicle is valued at $5 000. Ironically, this debt row follows hot on the heels of newspaper reports where ‘Tafadzwa’ was bragging that her life and finances were now better off without Macheso. She even “showed off” the vehicle in question purporting that she had bought it. However, it turns out that ‘Tafadzwa’ never paid anything for the car in question. She is alleged to have gone to a car sale along Chiremba Road and misrepresented to one Bothwell Mabika that she wanted to purchase the vehicle. She is alleged to have asked for a test drive and she took the opportunity to ‘flash’ the vehicle to newspapers. She then promised Mabika she was committing herself to pay for the vehicle and an agreement and payment plan was crafted by the two parties. “She came here and asked for a test drive,” Mabika said. “She then indicated to me that she was going to pay for the car and out of trust I agreed and we had a payment plan.” Luck ran out for her when the vehicle was impounded by Hatfield police a fortnight ago because she was driving it before sorting out the paper work. She is alleged to be now playing hide and seek, evading Mabika and claiming she was waiting for Macheso to bail her out. The vehicle is still stuck at Hatfield police station. Tafadzwa directed all questions to her lawyer since she does not talk to the media. Her lawyer Gift Nyandoro of Hamunakwadi, Nyandoro and Nyambuya legal practitioners refused to comment over the matter saying he has not been given instructions by his client. “Well, I am not aware of that matter to such an extent that I am not in a position to comment until further consultation with my client,” said Nyandoro. ‘Tafadzwa’ is no stranger to controversy. She has been previously involved in ‘dubious’ activities, especially during her courtship period with her ex-husband Macheso. She is alleged to have lied to Macheso that she was a close associate of American musician Akon. This ‘lie’ forced her to make her maiden public appearance with her then fiancée Macheso at Meikles Hotel for Akon’s press conference on September 3 2010.
