Take a look at Peanut Oil: We stock a fantastic range of cold-pressed oils at Naturally Good Food. All the standard oils are there, in pure, organic and sometimes raw forms – and we also stock some more unusual oils too. All of them have significant health benefits. Experimenting with a new cooking oil is a simple and inexpensive way to add variety and nutrition to your diet. These oils also make a great present for ‘foodie’ friends and relatives! The days of having just one, boring and slightly grubby looking bottle by the hob are well and truly over… Peanut oil: great for frying, and for your skin. We stock peanut oil from Bio Planete. This is made from organic, shelled peanuts, which are pressed as soon as they become available. The nuts are not roasted before pressing and the oil is not steamed after pressing. If you’re looking for ‘cold’ production, this could well be the oil for you. Peanut oil is rich in antioxidants, especially vitamin E, and packed with mono- and polyunsaturated fats, which help lower overall cholesterol levels. It is high in calories, but on the plus side, is often used as a slight appetite suppressant (and of course, if you eat proper food, made with proper ingredients like this, you’ll be much less likely to need to snack anyway). As you might expect, the oil has a slight aroma of peanuts! It’s one of the few healthy oils that is completely suitable for frying and roasting, rather than just drizzling and marinating, as it has a high smoke point. Here are some quick ideas for using peanut oil: Fry up some leftover potatoes in it, for a really distinctive taste. Use for stir-fries in the wok. Try it as an authentic oil in curries. Apply to the skin to protect against acne, dryness, dandruff and ecezma. Take as part of a ‘training’ diet to build muscles (thanks to its high protein content). If you’re a carnival/fairground/festival food-staller, this is a brilliant oil for deep-frying. Apply to the skin directly to relieve arthritis and joint pain. Use as a massage oil.
