Take a look at the first image and tell me what the symbol in the middle is. Then take a look at the second image and tell me what the symbol in the middle is. The reality is that both of the symbols are identical, but your brain interprets them differently based on the context its presented in. If you see a series of numbers you assume theyre all numbers, and likewise if you see a series of letters then you assume theyre all letters. The same can be said for calls to action on your ecommerce website. Its really important that buttons look like buttons if you want people to click on them. Sounds simple enough, but the reality is that many online stores waste time and money creating pretty banner images where the call to action just looks like part of the image. The major problem with this is that your customers brains are looking at the context of the image and assuming EVERYTHING about it is an image, so they move on without undertaking that next step. And failure to proceed can mean they leave without buying anything at all. One more thing...never be afraid to use the words Click here when you want a customer to actually click on something. Being extremely obvious never hurt anyone
