Take a moment to remember that two years ago, Dayton Towers, along - TopicsExpress

Take a moment to remember that two years ago, Dayton Towers, along with the rest of Rockaway was engulfed in a the historic disaster that was Sandy. Nearly everyone I know sustained loss. In our building within a week of the storm two elderly residents passed. Though not counted in the rosters of victims who succumbed to Sandy, it was surely the cause. Anyone on the peninsula that night will never forget. Sandy brought out the best and worst in people, but mostly the best. We volunteered, provided aid to neighbors and learned who we are. There is much left to be done, but it is always good--if only for perspectives sake--to remember where we were. After the lights went out, I took a number of pictures from my terrace. Thinking them pitch black I thought they were complete losses. Yet, with the magic of photoshop, I adjusted the levels and found this image in the murk. It is possible to make out surf between the buildings and the orange glow is a fire burning out of control on Rockaway Beach Boulevard. Of all the photos I took that evening, this--to me--is the most haunting.
