Take a stand against Black Friday on Thursday!!! Ive never been a big fan of Black Friday shopping, maybe because I had to experience them from the salesperson side and not from the consumers. Over the 14 years I have lived in the USA this Black Friday phenomenon had been creeping up to Thursday night and this year seems as if all kinds of stores and businesses are opening ON thanksgiving day.... Yes, that is correct... ON Thanksgiving day!!!!! Can someone please explain why????? In order for shops to open you need to have people working, meaning that thousands and thousands of workers across this country will not be able to have thanksgiving dinner with their families and friends. This was the ONE day a year when families of all sizes, colors and beliefs came together from near and far to give thanks for all their blessings, eat more food than humanly possible and create fun, or funny, memories (theres always some kind of episode...all families are the same...) But not anymore....lets keep diminishing the role and the importance of the family unit by making people work so you can get 50% off a second pair of shoes (actual promotion at the Sports Authority, that opens at 6pm on thursday) NEWSFLASH!!!!! This type if sales happen ALL YEAR ROUND!!!!!! But somehow we are brainwashed into thinking that deals like this only happen this ONE day and you are unlucky if you cant make it!!!! Well, the unlucky in this situation is the mother, the sister, the college kid that cant fly home so you can save 50% of a second pair of shoes or enter a chance to win a million dollars at macys People have argued the point that if that didnt want to work on Thanksgiving, they should have asked for the night off....SURE!!!!! Try that....if you want to keep your minimum wage job, you dont have a choice...but I dont see the managers, the owners or the CEOs rolling up their sleeves and doing the work beside their employees.... In a perfect world, us as consumers would take a stand and stay home on Thursday, dont go shopping, dont eat at a restaurant, spend quality (and mostly noisy) time with your family...give thanks for the blessings life / God / Allah has given you....dont fill the pockets of already rich enough corporations that sell things we dont need, to impress people we dont like.... This was supposed to be the land of the free and the home of the brave??? From where I sit its more like the land of the weak and the home of the slaves....This is supposed to be the Unites States of America, not the united slaves of America.... TAKE A STAND....MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!! STAY HOME THURSDAY!!!!! Lets all work together so we can bring back family values and the sense of whats important to this and the generations to follow... Happy thanksgiving to all....from the warmth of my home where I will be cooking for a small army, so I can save turkey for my cousin who wont finish working until 2:00am or so...
