Take a young child to a nursing home and watch the joyous reaction of the aged residents. The elderly are glad for visitors but especially eager to interact with young ones. One can only imagine that young ones are a reminder of youth that is long gone in years but so close in memory when there were no worries, aches or pains. Those in the spring of their life have so much to learn from those who are hunkering down in their winter season of their own life. The first and simple lesson for them to learn is before their eyes, seen in the wrinkled skin and racked body, that death comes to us all. Rigorous exercise, strict diets and avoiding detrimental lifestyles may abate death for a time, but only for a time. Regular interaction of the various age groups is mutually beneficial and yet many churches target certain demographic groups. But strange enough, those in the winter of their lives are not the normal target group and yet this is often the people experiencing loneliness and various troubles. May we visit orphans and widows in their time of trouble and thus demonstrate that our religion is pure and undefiled.
