Tali Gallery is encouraging schools to hold a beanie day as a NAIDOC Week - with kids decorating a beanie in this years theme Out of this World in line with the Alice Springs Beanie Festival in 2014 - wearing it to school on beanie day, and donating a gold coin to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation through the school. Fun and fabulous fundraising! The ILF sends book packs with culturally appropriate books and stickers translating them into traditional language to kids in remote communities. Nicholson Street Public in Balmain held their beanie day instead of the Easter Hat Parade but a beanie day can be held any time! Montessori Inner West is holding theirs this term as will ArtSPARK Art School and Balmain and Rozelle Public. These are photos from last year when Tali G held an exhibition opening for the kids with jelly snakes and bush cordial - some beanies created by ArtSPARKLERS were also exhibited at Leichhardt Library.
