Talk about a last minute reprieve.....and a Happily Ever After This little pooch is Piper. She was removed from a drug house in Pike County with 7 other dogs. Because Piper was very sick and like many rural counties, funds for extra care are hard to come by, the difficult decision was made to put this poor pooch out of her suffering. As you can see from the first picture, she wasnt well. This decision was made on the same day that The Andy, our spay/neuter truck, was at the shelter to do a day of surgeries. We called our staff to tell them to bring 3 dogs back with them. As we often do, we take the most challenging ones...the sick ones, the behavior issues. They told us about Piper and her scheduled euthanasia and we knew we had to help her. Piper was indeed a sick girl. She spent a full week in isolation with pneumonia. We thought we had her over the health hurdles then noticed she had a few unique, odd physical attributes. Dr Debbie Riebel, one of the excellent Vets at Gahanna Animal Hospital suspected Piper had distemper. This sick, underweight dog that slept constantly, really survived quite a storm. It took weeks, but this tough little pooch pulled through and became such a little lover. Super Pipes, as she was called by her foster Mom, loved this charming little dog to pieces. And then along came her forever family. Pictured is new adopter Jo with Piper on her adoption day. Jo is a long time dog lover and rescue adopter. The third picture is Piper with some new bling on a new dog bed. From almost euthanized to almost heaven. This is what its all about. For the love of a rescue dog.
