Talk about a scary lost and found.. Vials containing the smallpox virus from the 1950s were found in cardboard boxes in a storage room at an FDA laboratory in Bethesda, Maryland. The vials were sent to the CDCs high-containment facility in Atlanta and are now being tested to determine if the virus is still “viable” — meaning if it has the ability to grow in tissue culture.
