Talking about education systems, our has always needed work. Not - TopicsExpress

Talking about education systems, our has always needed work. Not merely an addition of years in the grades or in the secondary level. The whole darned system needs an overhaul because grades, not the quality of learning and the students ability to both retain and creatively use knowledge, has been the measure for too long. Yes, I agree that additional time in the process of learning can be beneficial. If the students indeed learn. For them to be in the optimal state to learn, they must be well-nourished, nurtured in an environment where asking questions and exploring the theories and principles taught is encouraged without penalties levied on their most natural curiosity. They learn to listen by example. For teachers to be in an optimal state to teach, they must be given good incentives to love their jobs, academic freedom that fosters creativity as well as discipline in teaching, the support they need from the schools where they work. These things cannot be legislated or quantified, yet these are the building blocks of a good educational system. It is the student, not the school. It is the teacher, not the school. It is the people, not the buildings or addition of years within the buildings. We are not producing products when we teach, we are training human beings to thrive and excel. Forgive me for saying this, but there is no production line on earth that will improve the quality of graduates who are then released into the work force after their requisite years in school. If it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a nation to educate one.
