Tall Timbers Jim Cox is leading one of our Shakespeare - TopicsExpress

Tall Timbers Jim Cox is leading one of our Shakespeare EcoAdventures. Here, he demonstrates the width of an old growth longleaf pine at the secret location where hell lead our trip. Much of the forest in our area has grown within the last century or so after being clear cut. This tract has been largely untouched, and has trees like this one that are 300-400 years old. The oldest may have been saplings while Shakespeare himself was alive. This tract is also a major stronghold of endangered red cockaded woodpeckers, whose numbers have dwindled after seeing a vast reduction of mature trees in which they nest. Sign up now to visit this rare example of ancient forest not normally made available to the public.
