Tanghalang Ateneo celebrates its 35th Season this year - TopicsExpress

Tanghalang Ateneo celebrates its 35th Season this year “Reimagining the Greeks” by staging four classic Greek plays beginning with Aeschylus’ trilogy Oresteia viewed from a contemporary perspective, now ANG ORESTEYAS. This is a great way of creating a bridge between classical theater and contemporary thought. One then realizes that there is something universal about emotions and behavior that make up the fabric of human experience. Whether Greek of Filipino, whether in Mycenae or in Manila – human beings are subject to certain traps that create tragic heroes and heroines or play with their own foibles that bring them to the comic centers of their lives. I wish the cast and all who labored through this production, great success! It’s wonderful to have Jay Crisostomo back with us on Ang Oresteyas – a showcase of talent as well as the fruit of mentorship and mastery of craft having learned a lot from the master mentor, Ricky Abad, the Artistic Director of the play. Now, Aeschylus’ Oresteia does not just ‘sound Greek’ to us. It is before us live so we can understand and appreciate better what human motivations are and how decisions are not based on black and white realities but on shades of gray. The play runs July 11-27 at the Rizal Mini-Theater, Ateneo de Manila University. For inquiries and ticket reservations, call Angelique Basa 09176309097. Come and watch the show. kalatasliteraryezine.wordpress/2013/06/27/tanghalang-ateneo-opens-35th-season-with-ang-oresteyas/
