*Tangy Love* It was raining heavily. She was sitting by the window, lost in his thoughts. She was eating the mango pickle that she bought from the roadside vendor the other day. Spicy pickles were her favorite. He always bought her the tangiest pickles from the different cities where he travelled for work.” Lets find out which one is more tangy” he added with a naughty wink while giving it to her. She giggled shyly every time he did that. The cold rain drops fell on her face and brought her back. Sometimes relentless rains can be sickening but for her they were very special, it reminded her of first time he had kissed her. The rains were accompanied with cold winds. She looked at her blanket which was lying listless on her bed. “Arent you feeling cold?” he had asked her while taking her for a ride on his scooter during one of the December nights, “How can I feel cold when I have you”, she whispered in his ears while hugging him even more tightly. Despite the fact that he loved her madly, he was not like the chocolate hero of any romantic movie. “I want to taste this pickle from your hand please”, she cajoled him. His expression of anger gave way to mischief when she bit his finger while pretending to taste the pickle. He also was that one person who could make her smile no matter how she sad she would be. A sheepish smile lit her face as she recollected his mimicry of her “tak” sound she made while eating the pickles. He teased her a lot at times. Sometimes she protested & asked tearfully if he truly loved her. ”Boys are always mean to the girl they love”, her grandmother’s words echoed in her mind when his lips drank those little streams of tears which rose from her eyes. He used to scold her too, though to a certain extent, she enjoyed irritating him. It was like a payback for all the teasing he did to her. But this time it was different. His schedule at work had become hectic and the constant pressure of reaching sales target had made him irritable. His prolonged absence made her angry too. Quick quarrels, complaints & difficult times which were bitter had arrived. Her tears were flowing like the unceasing rain outside. They had not spoken for almost a week now. ”I can’t handle this anymore” were his last words before he hung up. Her phone ringtone jolted her back into the reality .It was the tune which she had set specially for him on her phone ,which made her run like an athlete for her every time it played. Hi, he said. Hearing his voice made her heart skip a beat. Had lunch?, was all that she could ask, hiding her overflowing happiness while catching her breath. Yes, he said. But it was so plain, so ordinary and so depressing that I realized, it was time for me to get back to my lemon pickle. She giggled shyly as always. Some of the most beautiful moments in life can be tangy too, she thought happily. ~Sarba #TAWRepost
