Tanks, tanks, and more tanks?????? I saw an Egyptian fellow on the - TopicsExpress

Tanks, tanks, and more tanks?????? I saw an Egyptian fellow on the tube the other night talking about US foreign aid to his county. He said that Egypt has more tanks than in all of South America. In fact they are running out of places to put them. These are American tanks of course, produced by our robust military industrial complex, and purchased by us, the American taxpayer, to give to the Egyptians free of charge. I found it interesting that even after a military coo in Egypt, which is a direct affront to American law if you are receiving foreign aid, the Obama administration still gave two billion dollars to the Egyptian military anyway. I can understand that, even thou as a taxpayer it irritates me. Our government has allowed, even encourage domestic manufacturing to leave the county in mass, and what we have left is a huge industrial complex producing tanks, guns, and other military paraphernalia. Jobs, jobs. jobs, we hear that over and over from our politicians. And I have to admit that building tanks and guns is creating jobs. Still, there are quite of few problems associated with this approach to making the economy work. The first being; that the average American is not allowed to buy a tank, cruise missal, or submarine, even if they had the money to do so. That leaves the entire burden on the taxpayer to purchase all of these goodies for the American military or give them away to foreign governments. The second problem on the list is that; without a war going on, the American military is not using up this equipment fast enough to keep folks working. That’s where Egypt and countless other countries come in. We give them the tanks and guns so the factories can make more. This creates three huge problems. The first of course is that the American taxpayer is still footing the bill, and the second being we filling the entire world with armaments that create more warfare. The third is that the system is as corrupt as a hundred year old house without a roof, dry rotten throughout. I could go on and on with the problems associated with the way we are doing things now, but I want to get to the idea that is the most perplexing to me. And that is why we cannot spend a little of this money in the USA? When it comes to domestic spending the congress acts like they are beggars on the streets of a third world city. They don’t have a penny to spend here at home if it’s not directly related to defense or security. To put it bluntly, making us safe is bankrupting us. What I cannot under stand, if we are going to have to taxpayer supporting the economy, why does it have to be for military equipment, and even more billions spent spying on us at home? Why not give General Dynamics taxpayer money for building modern trains that we can use here in the states rather than tanks that the Egyptians don’t need? Why not have Lockheed building air-tankers to help fight forest fires here at home, rather than f-16s that the Egyptians don’t need. We are pissing the money off anyway. Why not piss it off here in the US, so the folks that are providing the money can benefit a little from their hard work. Instead congress is giving billions away and creating problems all over the world?????? I did a little research after writing this and came up with an article at: businessinsider/why-us-wont-cut-aid-to-egypt-2013-8 Here are a few quotes at I found interesting: Simon reports that the U.S. has sent more than 1,000 M1A1 Abrams — valued at about $4 billion — to Egypt since the late 80s, and at least 200 have never been used. She adds that since 1980 the U.S. has sent 221 F-16 fighter jets — valued at $8 billion — despite U.S. military advisers in Cairo counseling against more acquisitions for years. Nevertheless, America will continue the bonanza while turning a blind eye to the textbook coup that happened on July 3. The process of U.S. aid to Egypt is similar to how the U.S. Army receives M1A1 Abrams tanks it neither needs nor wants — there are currently more than 2,000 inactive M1A1 Abrams sitting at an Army depot in the California desert. Huge defense contractors and small manufacturers lobby Congress, and Congress ignores that fact that what it’s mandating is practically useless. Because of course Congress wants to keep those campaign donations rolling in. I would like to pose final question here. If congress is so money hungry, it seem that the tax payer would be far better off in the long run, if they just gave themselves each a billion or so, than giving away hundred of billions to pick a a few campaign donations????
