GMOs promised higher yields and less pesticides and shorter growth cycles so that poor countries could make more food and drought resistance and a host of other things. However, these things do not make money and have therefore not been delivered as you get higher money when there is an increasing shortage. The commercial law of supply and demand. What happened is the science has been distorted to maximise money – what we now have is lower yields, 26% increase in pesticide use (because Monsanto makes pesticides) oh by the way that’s why they didn’t shorten the growth cycle. This is interesting the Ciba-Geigy effect... in a nut shell if you shorten the growth cycle the natural pests are defeated because the plant adapts faster than the insect can evolve and the result is you need no pesticides …Yay!!! you would think. But a company that makes profit off pesticide is not going to grow a plant that doesn’t need it – it grows a plant that’s needs a lot more of it .
