Taraba State acting governor, Alhaji Garba Umar Wole Ayodele in Jalingo As the race for the 2015 gubernatorial election intensifies in Taraba State, acting governor of the state, Alhaji Garba Umar, has declared that his opponents are afraid of him. Fielding questions from newsmen in Jalingo on Monday night on his arrival from Abuja where he had procured the intent and nomination forms for the election, Umar said his opponents are scared of him being a man of the people. When asked if he is not scared of the endorsement of former Minister of Niger Delta, Mr. Darius Ishaku, by Gen. T. Y. Danjuma, he stated: “I’m not afraid of anyone in this race rather, they are the ones scared of me because they know I’m man of the people and that’s why they are panicking.” He further declared that he remained the man to beat in the party’s gubernatorial primaries in the state, adding that he was the first aspirant to pick the forms because he is sure of winning the primaries and the general election. He noted that the mammoth crowd that trooped out to welcome him back to the state after obtaining the forms was a clear indication that he is well accepted by the generality of the people of the state to lead the state beyond 2015. It took the convoy of the acting governor close to three hours to arrive at his campaign office along Malam Joda Road after alighting from the chartered plane that conveyed him from Abuja at exactly 4:35p.m. due to the retinue of vehicles including trucks that formed a very long convoy to lead him into the town. Speaking further, he announced the nomination of a three-time gubernatorial candidate in the state, Ahmed Yusuf, as the Director General of his campaign organisation just as he stressed that the directors of the campaign team would comprise 50 per cent Muslim and 50 per cent Christian. Yusuf, who was until early this year the Chief of Staff to the acting governor, was a former Commissioner for Works and Finance in the administration of Rev Jolly Nyame. THISDAY investigation however revealed that former administrator of Yangtu development area, Mr. Rimande Bitrus, would be the Secretary General of the campaign organisation. THISDAY
