Taraba attack: Death toll rises to 12 The death toll arising from the Tuesday attack by some armed men from the neighbouring Plateau on Tapga village in Ibi local government area of Taraba State has risen to 12. The chairman of Ibi local government, Alhaji Ishaku Adamu confirmed this to Nigerian Tribune on the telephone on Thursday, shortly after he visited the scene, adding that the corpses were recovered from River Benue, during the search by fishermen. He disclosed that the gunmen invaded Tapga Village at about 9.00 p.m, on Monday and started shooting sporadically, thereby killing affected persons and injured several others. The council chairman said though the situation was fairly coming under control due to the intervention of the military men and the police drafted to the area by the state government. He called on the state government to as a matter of urgency deploy helicopters to the areas in order to track down their hiding places in the bush. He further disclosed to Nigerian Tribune that additional eight persons are currently missing from the previous 20 earlier declared missing, as at Tuesday. The police public relations officer, Mr Joseph Kwaji told Nigerian Tribune that the police is still studying the situation and that he can not brief the media yet, until full details of investigation is properly carried. It will be recalled that the attackers first attacked the Tapga village in Ibi, last Monday, thereby leading to the death of 10 persons and over 20 people earlier declared missing, with several others injured.
