Task Force constituted to curb the sale of spurious pesticides and substandard fertilizers in Kulgam KULGAM, NOVEMBER 28: To curb the sale of spurious pesticides and substandard fertilizers, a task force comprising of officers of Agriculture, Horticulture and Revenue department was constituted at Kulgam today. Chairing a meeting of officers of Agriculture, Horticulture and Revenue, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kulgam impressed upon the officers to keep close vigil over the sale and purchase of pesticides and fertilizers in the district. “The agriculture and horticulture is the mainstay of economy of district Kulgam and some unscrupulous elements are pushing in spurious pesticides and substandard fertilizers to ruin the Agriculture and Horticulture sectors in the district. However, the need of hour is to tighten the noose around the persons involved in the trade of spurious pesticides and fertilizers so that the farmer community will have a sigh of relief, the meeting decided. It was given out in the meeting that the concerned monitoring squad will take action under law against the dealers who are selling the substandard fertilizers and seeds to the farmers. It was said that the squad will take the samples from all the concerned dealers for the purpose of testing in the departmental laboratories for quality check. It was disclosed in the meeting that there are 101 registered dealers who are dealing with the sale of pesticides and fertilizers in the district. Addl. Deputy Commissioner on the occasion stressed upon the concerned officers to check the stocks available in the market and ensure that only those fertilizers and seeds will be sold which are recommended by the Sher-i-Kashmir Agriculture University of Science and Technology. He directed the officers to activate the field functionaries so that quality pesticides, fertilizers and seeds be made available to the farmers at the designated outlets.
