Tasked with ascertaining whether the recent German blu-ray release - TopicsExpress

Tasked with ascertaining whether the recent German blu-ray release of Terry Zwigoffs GHOST WORLD (2001) was an all-region disc (it is) proved an unavoidable seduction. I loved the film from when I first saw it projected upon its theatrical release, but its been a few years since I re-watched it. Seeing it again I was struck with what two elements that appealed to me so much back then: It was the first movie I ever saw where I felt I knew different versions of most of the main characters in my real life. As well, I loved how the all the minor and peripheral characters were all so grotesque (obese, misshapen, crippled, crude, deluded). GHOST WORLD is a wonderfully misanthropic film. Additional little bits of note: A zine store! Sigh. Doug, the crazy nunchuck guy (Greeks invented homos!), is wearing a Zen Guerrilla shirt towards the end of the movie. I could see a reflection of myself when Enid slips one of Seymours records out of his shelf a ways and he fussily slides it perfectly back into its place. Enid, Im the only one who understands you (though, like all the other characters in the movie, Id rather date Rebecca [Scarlett Johansson]).
