Tata Steel helped Utkal University to renovated Museum of Geology Department On the occasion of its Diamond Jubilee Celebration, Geology Department, Utkal University reopened its museum which was renovated by Tata steel. The museum features a spectacular array of rare minerals including silicate structures, 375 crystal models, 215 types of rock forming and 145 types of industrial minerals, large stock of plutonic, hypabysal and volcanic igneous rocks, clastic and non-clastic sedimentary rocks and different varieties of metamorphic rocks. On Saturday, 18th January, Prof. P. K. Sahoo, Vice Chancellor, Utkal University inaugurated the renovated museum in presence of Mr J. D. Sharma, PCCF, Government of Odisha and Mr D. B. Sundara Ramam, Executive-in-charge, Ferro Alloys & Minerals Division, Tata Steel, Prof. R.N. Hota, Head of the Department of Geology, faculty members, other dignitaries and students. Both Prof. Sahoo and Mr. Sharma thanked the faculty members and students of the department for managing the museum and expressed admiration at the initiative of Tata steel to renovate it. Mr Sundara Ramam appreciated the efforts of the department for its academic activities and pledged continued support of Tata steel in future. Tata steel, continuing with its endeavour to bring excellence in education sector, helped the museum to get glistening granite flooring, new doors and windows, ultra-modern conference table, chairs, air conditioning system and a state of the art modular show case for display. The refurbished museum simply has to be seen to be appreciated. The museum also displays several types of invertebrate, vertebrate and plant fossils of different geological horizons, Survey of India toposheets, relief maps, imageries and many more articles of importance.
