Taxation for dummies... the taxes we pay are to fund public and important services. If we pay too much, we get a surplus, pay not enough we get a deficit. A surplus oriented approach is usually achieved, in Australia, by a focus on cutting funds, and making our industries more efficient and productive. A deficit is more typical when investment is the approach. Every taxation system works along the same dynamic, and it is so that public services are actually available to us, in good quality, where private commerce does not provide for such an opportunity. Garbage collection for example, public schools and health two more. Complaining about paying taxes is irrational, because we wouldnt have a country, much less needed services, without them. It doesnt take an accountant to work that out. Likewise, not to work out that people that fall on hard times will need to look somewhere, for assistance, before they can learn the hard lessons that naturally come with it. The best thing a country can do with its taxation is to combine investment with productivity outcomes. Arguing which party has done what to us is also irrational, because only economists with a paasion for that sort of thing, and a relatively unbiased view, can do that. You can only judge a government and its opposition by the direction in which they each want to take the country, and I for one find it a low act to build policy from its foundation up if it is based upon only an alternative to opposition. Where is the vision, sensibility, or trust, in that?
