Teacher is an English word and the Sanskrit word for teacher is GURU, which comes from “GU” and “RU”. The “GU” indicates the darkness and “RU” indicates which removes the darkness. Therefore, a teacher’s role is a torch bearer and pivot of any educational system of younger students. Teaching, in fact, is not a job, it is a noble calling. Teacher is a source of information, a guide, a mentor, a motivator, all at the same time. You have been all things to us. You have been a friend, a counselor, a mentor, a guide, an educator. You have shown us by example the way to lead our lives as we continue to tread the roads of our lives. You have given us your love, and we could not ask for more. No matter what kind of day I was having I knew as soon as I got to your class I would let all of that melt away and just absorb the wisdom you so graciously shared with us. There is no other teacher I am still in contact with and that speaks volumes for how you continue to guide and inspire the students whose lives you touched. You were always straight forward and very real. You laid things out just how they were and never sugar coated anything. I respect you for always treating us like equals. You never taught like you were above anyone and for that you were an amazing leader. You opened up and shared your own life with us not with a “do as I say not as I do attitude” but with a genuine hope and care that we indeed took something away from all of your experience and wisdom that would better our own lives if we were smart enough to do so. You were meant to inspire, you were meant to guide, and you were meant to teach. There are so many of us that can say we are better people just for knowing you. Thank you for continuing to make an imprint in my life. Regards, Lise Provencher
