• Teachers play the most important role in the education of our children. We need to listen to our teachers, using their input to focus on teaching methods that are productive while phasing out those that are less effective. • Because they play such an important role, it is crucial that we focus on the retention of our teachers. We need to pay our teachers more. Period. Recruiting the best-qualified teachers and administrators possible should also be a priority. Mail outs showing we aren’t the lowest paying district in southeast Texas are nothing to crow about • Recognizing that we cannot afford to be the highest paying district, it is of utmost importance that we give our teachers unwavering support. The inability to offer the highest pay necessitates that we create the best work environment possible and empower our teachers as much as possible. • It is important that we realize that not all of our children will attend college. We need a renewed emphasis on vocational education. So many young men & women could make a very good living immediately out of high school if we provided them with the tools and skills to do so. • With our limited resources and our need to fund the critical educational needs previously enumerated, we should reevaluate where our money is being spent. Our campus and facilities are among the best anywhere. While mostly funded by grants, our expansion has come at a cost to our taxpayers, teachers and students. This infrastructure will require staff to clean, paint, and repair them. It would be a shame if we couldn’t afford to pay someone to teach in them. Political advertising approved by Shannon Meaux
