Teachers should enter the room while the students do the wave. Our driveways should be crowded with paparazzi. There should be a Teachers Hall of Fame (and a yearly compilation of all-stars). There should be scandals about teachers who are juicing, and we should have private trainers in the off season. We should be courted by companies for our endorsement. Teachers should be able to retire from the profession and then be hired by Hollywood as action heroes. There should be a college draft for teachers. There should be groupies. We should be featured in teachings greatest plays and bloopers films. Teachers ought to have agents who negotiate their contracts and advertising deals. We need to be featured on trading cards (I have a rookie James Van Pelt card in mint condition). Cities ought to bid on the rights to build us better schools with sweetheart tax incentives. There should be a market for star teachers jerseys and memorabilia. We need a system where teachers can be traded for future draft choices and an undisclosed sum of money. Superstar teachers should be able to continue in the public eye as color commentators. Teachers should be featured on Wheaties boxes.
