Teaching: How to pray Scriptures: Matthew.6:9-13 9 “This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation,[a] but deliver us from the evil one.[b]’ _________ We need to understand why we were given this prayer. When asked Jesus explained what is not a prayer for example praying to be seen or hiding when praying. The concept ‘Our Father’ means we as sons and daughters are all included. The first setting of your mind when praying is that you acknowledge Him as your Father. When praying make it personal, address Him as ‘My Father’. If you do not acknowledge Him as your Father it spoils your prayer. Meditate on the relationship between you and your father. Know that you were created in His image. You are the heir, the chosen one. Have no doubt that you are a child of God. He expects a child who is confident, aware of their rights. Move in prayer knowing that your father is listening. Before you go before the presence of God have no fear and trust in Him. Our father wants children who surrender all to Him knowing all will be taken care of. Understand and clarify that He is your father. You may face challenges but know your father knows it all and is looking into it. Delay is not denial. When praying and expecting answers Your Father is ready and waiting for you to change your mindset of being an outcast. Don’t pray as if He is a foreigner to you. When you receive Him it is called a marriage. Make Him personal. Have confidence in your Father. It is not your effort that counts but the love of Jesus Christ. Luke.15 carries the Parable of the lost son. It is when he came to his senses that he realized he had a father. Coming to your normal senses only starts when you realize you have a Father. If you were not recognizing your father all these years, you were not in your right state of mind. The prodigal son suffered before he realized he had a father. The moment he did, all his problems were solved. The problem with Christians is that we question whether or not God will answer our prayers and grant us our desires. We tend to think that we do not deserve to be in our father’s presence. Before the prodigal son had reached his father, before he had even given his request to be made a servant, his father recognized him first and ran to him. Before you even present your prayer request God will be ready to hear you as His son. It is not about your effort it is about God. The moment you recognize you have a father, He is going to recognize you as a son. Father means source – Abba. The moment you walk towards the source, the source will come to you. It does not matter whether you are HIV positive, have a criminal record among other things. He is your Father and He is ready to embrace you the way you are. The father in the parable ran towards his son and kissed him which was a sign of receiving him. The son was ready to be made a servant but his father refused and instead he ordered a new robe. It was now time for renewal and he got the best robe. Tonight as you are renewed the best robe is coming your way. The father celebrated saying his son was dead. He was not dead in reality but in his father’s book he was recorded dead because he had forsaken his father. He is the one who came back but the bible says he was found. In order for you to be found you do not need to go to the mountain. You just need to recognize your father .The first son was in the field as the party was being organized and he had to go through the servant to know what was happening. As a son he should have gone direct to his father. You might be a son but your character might alter your relationship with your father. Hence you are not enjoying your full benefits. You must enjoy your health and breakthrough. Glory be to God.
