Teaching children history, the manner in which it came to be taught from the 20th century until now, is a crime against American children. In my generation, history was shortened down to little more than names, places, and dates that children had to memorize by rote, with no clue as to why they needed to do that. Then history was shortened further and wadded up into an amorphous gelatinous blob known as Social Studies which included other scholastic casualties such as Geography, American Government, Constitutional studies, etc., all of which elbowed each other for breathing room in the confused minds of children who wondered how these boring facts and figures would help them flip burgers better. Today, history has been completely rewritten according to fashionable politically corrected thought police dogma. Our ancestors from two centuries ago got it right. Modern drones got it wrong. History is intended to give answers to current issues. To learn to think critically. To learn that there really are eternal principles of truth that never change. To know when were off the tracks and heading for disaster. In matters of national importance, Moses commanded not to behave as our foolish ancestors did. History studies, as they are taught today, ensure that children will probably grow up to repeat every error men have made over the centuries. It is part of the reason why future generations will remember my generation as fools of the lowest order.
