Team Cashe: As I prepare to leave tomorrow for Ft Stewart I have to say I hate to leave Ft Benning. The good folks here have been amazing. Its little wonder SFC Cashe loved the 1/15th, its Soldiers and the people of Ft Benning. I have truly felt at home here. I owe the Officers, NCOs and men and women of the 1/15th a great debt of gratitude and appreciation. They went out of their way for me and most importantly for Tamara, LaJada, Kasinal and her family. You could truly see the respect, the loyalty, the admiration and the love they still hold for SFC Cashe and his family. I personally was honored to meet and speak with Major Jimmy Hathaway, Major Vern Tubbs and his lovely with Pamela; and, a special honor to meet and speak with CSM Chris Mackenzie. Then First Sergeant Mackenzie was very close to Al and it was he who helped SFC Cashe to the Medivac at FOB Mackenzie that horrible evening. Finally I owe a special debt of gratitude to Major Harry Irving and his wonderful wife Mary, and their children, Ashley, Caroline and little Tommy. You can not meet more wonderful people or know a more caring family. They truly made me feel right at home and they went out of their way to do anything they could for me or help me in anyway. Having the honor to call former comrades of Als friend, men such as Doug Dodge, Jimmy Ryan, DeWitt Revels, Gary Mills and most of all General Gary Brito; and, now to have the privilege of adding Harry Irving, Jimmy Hathaway, Vern Tubbs and Chris Mackenzie, along with Major Leon Matthias (who I hope to meet soon) is truly an honor. I can only hope and pray that we all will be together again soon, to talk and take pictures together.........in Washington DC, at the White House, after we watch the President of the United States present the Medal of Honor to Tamara, Miss Ruby Mae, Als babies, and his entire family. Men of the 1/15th, past and present, my eternal thanks.....CAN DO!
