Team New Balance Spotlight: David T. Ochsendorf Profession/employer: Physical Therapist/Siesta Key Sports & Physical Therapy Running background: I took up running recreationally in college as a way to stay fit. I played baseball, basketball and soccer through high school. As a former soccer player I was used to running. I ran my first (and fastest) half marathon in 2001 (Rock-n-Roll Virginia Beach) at 1:40, but haven’t trained much since. This year’s Racing Series inspired me to increase mileage and training efforts and I have steadily improved over the course of the year. Started Running: 1995 Running inspiration: Competitive spirit, passion for health and fitness Greatest running achievement and why: 1:40 half marathon PR because I really committed to training, performed well, felt great and enjoyed the race immensely Favorite race distance(s)? Half Marathon Staying motivated: An inherent competitive desire to constantly improve Pre-race cardinal rule: Hydrate and WARM UP! Favorite local race: Bill’s Beer Run Favorite New Balance shoe and why: 880 for longer runs as they provide a little more support and shoe under my heel; 1080s for shorter runs – less heel drop helps me feel more connected to the ground and fast!
