Team Teresa Update – One, Two, Skip A Few! What a week! Teresa is continuing to make incredible progress on the long journey toward full recovery. The feeding tube came out on Wednesday and she is enjoying real food for the first time in a month. Even better news is that the ventilator, Teresa’s constant and very essential companion since this journey started, has been removed from her room for good! The trach is still in place but significantly less oxygen assistance is needed. Woot, Woot! Because of the trach, Teresa verbal communication is still limited, unless you know how to read lips. If you can read lips, you’re in for a full-blown conversation! In our last Team Teresa update, we noted that Teresa would be moving to the Pineville LTAC facility if all went as planned. All did not go as planned and her move was delayed due to insurance hiccups. As Mark and the hospital tried to iron out the issues, Teresa took matters in her own hands. She made so much progress that her doctors have decided that the expected month-long stay at LTAC is no longer necessary. Instead, Teresa will stay in the hospital until early next week when she will now be moved across the street to the CMC Rehab Center. This was the facility planned for her AFTER her LTAC stay. Remember those few kids in grade school who were so exceptional that they skipped a grade? Yep, the focus of Team Teresa is now one of those! That said, rehab will not be a picnic. Teresa has a lot of hard work to do to bring her muscles back to the point where they can support her for everyday function. But, there is no doubt that if anyone is up for the challenge, it is Teresa, her unwavering coach and husband, Mark, and her incentives, Lani and John. As so many of you have said in your comments to the last update, God Is Good. Thank you for the continued prayers of gratitude and for continued healing. Have a wonderful weekend.
