Team blog Day 6 Today was a day of roosters and chickens, library books and new shelves, CPR training and mannequins, and monkeys. Yes, Monkeys!Temperature was a little lower today and humidity was down maybe to 80% from yesterdays 90+. And we had a nice breeze once in awhile. Evidently God heard our evening prayer.Paula and Jim were carrying the CPR mannequins to the chapel where the seminars are held. of course Paula had the baby mannequin slung over her arm as she carried a few other items. This caught the attention of several people who thought she was carrying a real child. Trying to explain the baby mannequin quickly to someone who did not understand english very well was interesting to say the least. Jim was struggling with the 50lb rectangular case on wheels containing the rest of the CPR equipment. 50 lbs might not seem like much, but carrying it over rough terrain for a 1/4 mile in the heat is a bit challenging. A man walking on the trail approached and said: Put it on my head. He was willing to take the load for a stranger and carry it on his head! How could we not love these people? Meanwhile setting up the AV had its special challenges as no one is ever sure what outlets are 110v vs 220v. in addition all of the extension cords are frayed and look very dangerous. We then realized that some of the presentations had audio. Of course we had no amplification or speakers. One of the hospital workers said we could find electronics in the village of Ganta. Of course there wasnt enough time to walk there and back. Linda suggested that Jim could ride a pinpin. Translation: dirtbike taxi. For those of you who know Jim, this is your chance to vote : did he or didnt he ride the pinpin?? we wait for your votes, please post them as a reply. so... Jim did manage to get to town and purchased an MP3 player with a good amplifier. The presentations went well and the nurses were all eager to try giving CPR to the mannequins. Karen or Ironwoman as she is now known, gave an awesome presentation on burn care and then her and Paula did a tag team CPR demo. All the while roosters were outside the chapel pretending it was sunrise.Meanwhile Doug and Terri were finishing up at the library. Their teaching sessions will begin on Monday. Following their afternoon at the library Terri headed over to Rev. Priscillas house to see her petting zoo. Three monkeys, 3 black deer, an alligator and a turtle. But today the big attraction was the arrival of a baby chimpanzee! So, Terri has some great photos of her holding four month old Mighty Jo. Following another wonderful meal of chicken, Zipperfish, plantaines, greens and rice, we all went to Rev. Priscillas house. Where we all had a chance to visit with Mighty Joe and the rest of the menagerie. Sharing in these experiences, devotions and learning more about each other, has really made us a team. We began discussing a reunion at Lakeside, Ohio this coming June. Weve been told that it is about 8 degrees back home. In the heat of the day that almost sounds good, but then again, maybe not. We humans are strange beasts! Dont forget to cast your vote; did he or didnt he ride the pinpin? The winners get to come on a future trip to Ganta! Love to all back home, your prayers keep us comfortable and energized. End day 6 God is good. All the time.
