Tech update: Windows 9 is going to be called Windows 10 because Microsoft thrives on making things as confusing as possible for consumers. Remember former names? Windows 95, 98, then Windows CE, ME, and NT? Put it together=Windows CEMENT, then XP, Vista, 7.. Also frustrating, unlike Apple, which does an unveiling shortly before the release of the product, Microsoft unveiled Windows 10 a YEAR before well actually get it. They are having everyday users and pros beta test it to get the bugs out. This means Im going with a Droid phone (despite loathing Google) on a prepaid plan. $45 a month for unlimited kills the god-awful single line rates at Verizon when Lisa and I end our contract. $120 for limited data? No, Verizon--you fail. Ill be happy to toss my old Samsung Reality dumb phone and finally get a smartphone. My phone REALLY HAS TO GO. Even dialing has become too hard for it (I said this years ago about touchscreens--if they stop working, how will we even make calls?). No one listens to me. Upsides: Windows is due for an amazing OS. 95 was great, 98 was demonic, 98 v2 was great, ME was crap, XP rocked, Vista was hit and miss, 7 was stable and the best yet, 8 has been hated by businesses and users so much that 10 is coming out a couple years early to replace it. Also, the Start button will be back, along with more intuitive and more traditional Windows UI features, but Live Tiles and touchscreen features will remain. The desktop will go back closer to a 7 experience but the ability to have the same OS on all Windows devices that 8 gave us will remain, so you can easily sync and go between Windows tablets, phones, PCs, and laptops. It will also release when the new a/c WiFi standard is in place, Intels new M chips will be out, and other hardware advances can be taken advantage of. Best of all, in a totally uncharacteristic move, Microsoft should be allowing all Windows 8 users to upgrade to 10 FOR FREE.
