Tell opposition leader John Robertson its time to phase out coal and gas in NSW today The leader of the opposition in NSW John Robertson today expressed some support for Lock The Gate Alliance in Sydney telling LTGA members that he was fighting to stop CSG drilling near our water catchments. However he still believes coal has a future in NSW. In May last year at the Beyond Coal and Gas Conference in the Hunter Valley John Robertson replied to a question by environmentalist Jonathan Moylan by saying that coal needed to be phased out in NSW and that Labor was developing a plan to do so. Mr Robertson later claimed he had been taken out of context and reworded his statements after mining stakeholders went on the offensive. Robertson changed his stance on coal by stating: There is still an ongoing role for coal in our energy future, though I recognise this is likely to decrease over time as we move away from carbon-intensive energy generation.
