Temples were raged to the ground at Cuttack City including the Ganesh temple at Ganesh Ghat, old Saibaba temple at the same spot and the Gundicha complex on Kathjodi bank. Ganesh ghat is an old name whose origin is older than any one living to-day in Cuttack. It is more than 100 years old. The Ghat is named after the temple of Lord Ganesh. It was not obstructing the road, as it was in between the two roads running parallel to each other and there is one way traffic on each side. Heavy police force was deployed to prevent the devotees to protest. Now it gives a dismal picture of the entire episode. Talk of the town is, it all started due to vindictive reaction of one Judge in the High Court, who summoned the DGP and asked to give sufficient Police Force to go ahead with the demolition of temples in the city. The policy of the State Government in sequel to the order of the Supreme Court was to examine each matter, case to case and finalize in accordance with the laws prevailing. But how the High Court could arrogate the power to execute such demolitions with out jurisdiction ? And the people in Cuttack city are silent spectators as they hold the institution of High Court in great esteem.
