Ten Turtles on Tuesday is a book written about Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder or sometimes we refer to it as OCD. Another similar book is entitled My Anxious Mind. It focuses on guiding teens to managing anxiety and panic. Mighty Mike Bounces Back is a book about a boy and his life with epilepsy. Autism, The Invisible Cord is written as a diary of a student with autism. Asperger’s Rules - explains how to make sense of school and friends for someone who has Asperger’s. Sometimes, a person may see a therapist about things going on in their life. The book, Feeling Better, explains what seeing a therapist might be like and how it helps. Another book called Mind Over Basketball helps you learn to coach yourself to handle stress. Have you ever heard of ADHD? In the book entitled, Putting on the Brakes, the authors explain so you can understand ADHD and how to take control of it. In another category of feelings, we have a new book called How To Feel Good. This book gives teens 20 things you can do to give yourself a positive mental attitude. Understanding Myself is a book that guides kids through intense emotions and strong feelings. And yet another book entitled, Chillax! shows you how to chill out, relax and take charge of your anger. The book entitled, Black Jack Jetty, describes a boy’s journey through grief. How would you like for school to become easier? One of the new books we have is called, School Made Easier. It is a guide to studying strategies and anxiety-busting tools. Another book along the same lines, is called Many Ways to Learn. In this book students are guided to understanding the learning process when a student has a learning disability. A very specific guide to managing life with diabetes is entitled Type I Teens. Obviously you don’t have to be a diabetic to read this. You might be interested in it because of a friend or relative that has been diagnosed with diabetes. We have three new books about cancer. One is called The Bald-Headed Princess and it is about cancer, chemo, and courage. A second book is called The Year My Mother Was Bald, which is a true account of a teen and her mother’s illness. The third book is called, Upside Down and Backwards. This story is about a teen whose sibling has been diagnosed with cancer. Lastly, but definitely not least, one of our new books is about bullying. It is entitled Shield Up! This book relates how upstanding bystanders stop bullying. All of these books are now available for you to check out in our school library. I hope that you will will take a look at them and read them. Realize that your knowledge of these things is a huge help to others, when you understand what they, or you yourself, are going through.
