Tenses post-9 (Present perfect tense—1) Good evening Friends, now we are going to learn “present perfect tense”. I have already told you that for each and every tense, you must concentrate on 2 things. 1) The structure of the tense: what are the rules to be followed to prepare a sentence in this tense? 2) Usages: when to use this tense? Now let us see them. 1) The structure of “present perfect tense”: Blindly remember the following 3 rules. A) If the SUBJECT is “I/ we/ you/ they/plural noun, then the word “have” follows. Examples: “I have” gone to school. “We have” gone to school. “You have” gone to school. “They have” gone to school. “Students have” gone to school. B) If the SUBJECT is “He/ she/ it/singular noun, then the word “has” follows. Examples: “He has” gone to school. “She has” gone to school. “It has” gone to school. “Student has” gone to school. C) The verb is always in its 3rd form. (go, went, gone. So “gone” comes in this tense.) Examples: see the above examples. Usages: We use “present perfect tense” in the following situations. 1) When the time of the action is not important or not known. (See. No time is mentioned in the below sentences.) I have watched an Indian movie. She has studied Japanese, Russian and English. Someone has eaten my soup. 2) Action completed in the very recent past. Here the word “just” is used before the verb. I have just eaten. They have just finished work We have just seen her. He has just left. 3) Action completed in the past. But, now, the action has some “felt effect” on the “present”. See the below examples. I have cut my finger. (Felt effect: oh my god…..it is bleeding now) They have killed the tiger. (Felt effect: now we are safe. We can be happy. No fear. Thank god.) Now friends, do the following work: 1) Read again and again slowly, until you understand. 2) After understanding, study and remember the structure of the tense (3 rules) and 3 usages. 3) Take a pen and paper, without looking the post, write 1) the structure of the tense (3 rules) and 3 usages. 4) Write 30 examples on your own. i.e., for each usage 10 sentences. 5) If you have any doubts ask me.
