Tension in Jos North over killing of 13-year-old girl From Mariam Aleshinloye AGboola, Jos The murder of a 13-year-old girl at the Filin Square area of Jos has sparked tension in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, as residents trooped out to protest the continuous activities of kidnappers operating within Angwa Rogo and the Filin Square axis. The girl identified as Ummi Abubakar was sent last Friday morning with a food flask by her mother to buy masa (a local delicacy made from rice or maize) close to their residence in Filin Square for her and the other siblings to eat before going to school When Ummi did not return to the house on time for them to eat and go to school, one of the family members went after her to the woman selling the masa. The woman confirmed that she came quite alright to buy the food with the flask but shortly after she returned with a plate to buy more. Through the neighbours it was gathered that a gateman staying in a nearby house, who was identified as Awalu, had sent Ummi to buy the same food for him. Ummi was traced to the house and the food flask was discovered in the restroom close to the gate but neither Ummi nor the gate man could be found. A search party was constituted to look for them. The man was later discovered and when he could not state where Ummi was, they called in the police and he was arrested. Upon interrogation, he confirmed that he was not working alone and mentioned another man, simply named Nafiu, living at Angwa Rogo and the police went and arrested him. While he would not say where Ummi was, he confessed that together with other members of their gang, they had kidnapped and killed a girl at Filin Square whose body was discovered about two months ago in an uncompleted building and that they were paid N400,000 by a person who engaged them for the dastardly act. Because Awalu had started confessing, the police asked the crowd, which has started gathering to leave so that they could interrogate the two suspects. On their own the search party decided to go to the same house where the body of the other girl was discovered and after a thorough search Ummi’s body was discovered in a bucket with vital parts removed. The whole area became charged as the residents trooped out calling for justice as the cases of kidnapping for ritual killings were becoming rampant between Angwa Rogo a densely populated Hausa community and Filin Square, a relatively new settlement. Sunday Sun gathered that the arrested youths have also mentioned the receiver of the vital parts also residing in Angwa Rogo but who is at large but efforts are being made to arrest him. When contacted, the Police Public Relation Officer for the State Police Command, DSP Felicia Anslem who confirmed the incident to Sunday Sun said the two suspects are in police net while efforts are being made to round up all the people involved in the heinous crime.
