Tension in Moreh town after one shot dead July 5, 2013. Tension remianed high in Moreh, the border town of Manipur at the international border with Myanmar on Friday, after a youth was shot dead near a public meeting venue. 28-year-old, Samraj son of Shantibiren of moreh ward no. 3 was shot dead by two unidentified gunmen at around 3 pm. Eyewitnesses said two persons came in a motor cycle and fled after shooting the youth near Sunrise Club where a public meeting was scheduled to be held. According to police source, one of the accused had surrendered to a camp of the 9 Assam Rifle located near the Moreh international gate no. 2. He has been identified as Pulia (40) son of Vellacham of Moreh’s Dalpati locality. The other accused is absconding, police reports said. Police suspect personal enmity behind the shooting incident. Reports reaching here said that the shooting took place when various communities residing in Moreh town were preparing to hold a public meeting to discuss on the increasing threats from some underground outfits actively operating in the border town in connection with their monetary demands. Meanwhile, 19 cadres of the Kuki National Liberation Front (KNLF) surrendered with arms to the 9 AR post at Moreh Thursday. Among the surrendered cadres, five were said to be top functionaries of the outfit actively operating in Chandel district of Manipur, particularly in Moreh and its adjoining areas, a source said.
