Tension is rising between residents and staff of Nkhatabay - TopicsExpress

Tension is rising between residents and staff of Nkhatabay District Hospital, following the death of a traditional leader in the area. Relatives of Group Village Headman Matawale, who died on Sunday afternoon, are accusing Nkhata Bay District Hospital authorities of overdosing the chief, a development they think led to his death. He had been admitted at the hospital on Monday last week for severe leg wound. His guardian Chulukani Mwenda told the Malawi News Agency that on the morning of Sunday, the Chief got two usual injections, but surprisingly three hours later, another nurse entered the ward with two more injections. Mwenda says this made the Chief to start jerking heavily before he died. The development saw members of the community confronting the hospital authorities for clarification. Nkhata Bay District Hospital spokesperson Professor Mfune confirmed the development but stressed that the chief died because of the wound and not an overdose as claimed. Mfune says they have since advised the relatives to go for a postmortem.
