Termites eating away at the foundation of some great edifice are ignorant of the devastation they are inflicting. They are merely mindless organisms feeding their capacious appetites. There are termites eating away at the foundation of this republic. They are in the form of governmental policies and legislation designed to protect and benefit people; instead they ensnare and devour them. Rather than give people a push toward independence and self-sufficiency, welfare programs, for example, trap generations of our citizens in patterns of dependency and hopelessness. There are many other examples. Obamacare will be another of these pernicious programs. It presents itself as benign and beneficient. It will prove to be both malignant and malicious. When it takes full effect, it may last generations before most people are able to realize the great error we are committing now. May future generations forgive us for unleashing the termites of rashly considered policies that will have devoured the once-great republic they will inherit.
