Terms of Reference Short Term (2months) Consultancy: Communication Officer o Reports to CANGO Executive Director and to Project Manager o Plans and supervises all the internal and external communication activities of CANGO and of Project Tasks (tasks identified inside the project document are highlighted with their time frame): 1) CANGO internal communication: o Prepares tools to facilitate the internal communication, including CANGO secretariat, Consortia and member associations, and trains staff and members on the use of these tools. o Collects information on the activities by CANGO and its members for dissemination. o Prepares tools for CANGO secretariat, Consortia and members, such as customised daily press reviews, to keep CANGO and its members informed about the debate and to respond quickly to events / emergencies / controversies / appeals etc.. o Supports Networks in effective communication and coordination within the Network, with CANGO secretariat, with other actors/networks of the civil Society and with the Media o Supports each Network to elaborate and disseminate news regarding thematic issues of interest to the Network and organise ad hoc training when necessary. o Supports Networks in information gathering and its elaboration / dissemination / advocacy actions 2) CANGO external communication: o Prepares media pieces, suitable for the various media, about debates, news and data coming from the members and the Consortia, drafts press releases related to events and calls for press conferences. o Management / update media database. Organises specific training sessions for Media o Keeps permanent contacts with journalists / update of events / important conferences / media events. o Plans and supervises production of information material and means of distribution. o Monitors and updates continuously CANGO web site, with the addition of links to members’ and other relevant news/websites and coordinates updates to be developed by members, publication of press releases, etc. o Ensures use of new media / social networks by CANGO and members and supports their management and continues update. o Develops communication plan for prioritized themes and Consortia. o Manages and updates CANGO mailing list including all the stakeholders of the civil society o Designs and leads the campaign for CANGO visibility and networking with information kits, radio programmes, newsletter, articles in newspapers, information leaflet, etc. o Produces six-monthly newsletter, its publication on the website and distribution through email; use of social networks; mailing list update to reach all the interested stakeholders 3) Participation in mobilisation / campaigns o Participates to the project’s mapping of NSAs and examines NSAs’ media policy o Leads mapping of Swazi media o Participates to the organisation of the civil society conference and leads discussions on mechanisms for coordination of communication flows at different levels 4.)
