Terrific article on MATES in Construction, nominated for a LiFE Award at the National Suicide Prevention Conference in July. Established in Queensland in 2008, it expanded into WA, NSW, SA in 2012. The program is based on the simple idea that suicide is everyones business, & if the construction & building industry in Australia is to improve the mental health & wellbeing of workers and prevent suicide, everyone in the industry must play a part. To date, MATES in Construction has provided General Awareness Training to 47,253 Australian construction workers. A further 3,615 workers have trained as connectors, while 482 workers have volunteered to be suicide prevention first aid workers on Australian construction sites. ow.ly/xRjho
