Terrorism. Im going to do a series of post on how we might think (productively) on terrorism. It comes from a ton of actual conversations Ive had in the last weeks, and 32 years of on-the-ground real life with people we call terrorists. Terrorism: the use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims - typically against civilians. Although some reading this will think that Hamas, Hezbollah and the Muslim Brotherhood are terrorists, I will define them as political organizations that have national aspirations that sometimes employ acts of terror for their means. For instance, Hezbollah is that for Lebanon. Hamas for Palestine and the Brotherhood for Egypt. Its not fair to lump them in with Al Qaeda and ISIS. These two (and some others) exist to level havoc and chaos on civilians with the pure intent to terrorize a population. They dont occasionally resort to terror tactics - they are terrorists. So how do we - as followers of Jesus - think about terrorists and terrorism? Thats what ill be answering in the next few days - sorry to leave you hanging, but I gotta go make dinner. :)
