Terrorists are enemies of Islam: scholars As Islam stands for peace, harmony and brotherhood, those who oppose peace cannot be Muslims. By Altaf Ahmad for Khabar South Asia in New Delhi January 21, 2014 At the historic World Peace Forum organised by Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind (JUH) in Deoband on December 13th and 14th, Islamic scholars urged Muslims to unite against terrorists who misuse the religions ideology and threaten Dawaah (Islamic propagation). Muslims are tired of terrorists defining the global image of the religion. But the World Peace Forum plays a key role in presenting Islams true message. Islam does not allow even destroying a damaged leaf of a plant without logic and reason. How come terrorists kill human beings and claim a place in paradise? said Maulana Hifzur Rehman, imam at India Islamic Cultural Centre (IICC) New Delhi. JUH General Secretary Maulana Mahmood Madani told Khabar South Asia, Muslims must unite against all evil forces who interpret Islam according to their whims and wishes. Islam is saviour of humanity and those involved in spreading violence should be brought to justice. More than 100,000 people participated in the forum, including Jamia Millia Islamia student Rashad Ahmad. The way our Ulemas issued a categorical verdict about the elements that carry out terror activities in the name of Islam, I believe there should be no doubt in anybodys mind about terrorists – that they are not Muslims but the enemies of Islam, Ahmad told Khabar. Clergys responsibility Muslim scholars play a crucial role communicating Islams true values to youths-- before they can be radicalised. Youths are vulnerable to so many exploitations including the misinterpretation of Quranic verses. Clergy can impress upon strayed youths, who are victims of exploitation by different means, M. Mohibul Haque, Political Science professor at Aligarh Muslim University, told Khabar. University of Delhi Economics Professor Salahuddin Ahmad Siddiqi believes poor education and social and economic injustices are critical in transforming young moderate men into hardcore terrorists. Religious scholars have a massive role in changing the mindset of youths who are inclined toward violence due to so many reasons. They also need to reform madrassa education as poorly educated youth dont have too many avenues to earn a comfortable livelihood, he said. Jamshed Zaidi, political activist and president of the Secular Front of India, said ulemas made it clear terrorists misuse the name of Islam and are not Muslims. I think Islam has taught us to remain firm and united against the trouble creators and violence mongers, he said. We should save our religion from the criminals who have an agenda to divide humanity in the name of religion, race and region, as this is against fundamentals of Islam.
