Testimony from a recent EPI Grad: Executive Protection Institute: A Review of the 7-Day Providing Executive Protection Program (By Carlos J. Chavesta) The Executive Protection Institutes 7-Day Providing Executive Protection Program is widely considered the premier executive protection training available in the security and protection industry today with good reason. EPI has been providing world class protective training both publicly and privately for over 34 years; a length of continuity commensurate with the institutes principals of quality instruction and real world training. The Providing Executive Protection Program covers a wide range of topics that are both necessary and relevant to those who would seek to find employment is this unique and challenging profession. Those working in the industry will also benefit from the in-depth subject matter based training and networking opportunities attendance to the program provides. EPI features highly skilled instructors with years of experience in government, private and corporate protective teams who are both friendly and accessible to students. Tuition includes lodging for the entirety of the course, provided training materials, refreshments and hands on training that are unparalleled in the protection industry. My personal experience at EPI was very rewarding. Prior to my attendance, I was carefully screened by the staff to ensure I was both eligible for the training and capable of completing the program. During the program I was exposed to over 15 different instructors from wide ranging disciplines who demonstrated a confident expertise in their individual specializations. EPI instructs students in intelligence based protection with an emphasis on threat assessment, advance work and mitigation strategies. The program consisted of an extensive range of topics covering the full spectrum of protective operations, including executive and celebrity protection, protection in the corporate environment and an introduction to overseas protective work. The training was very hands on with an emphasis on field and tabletop exercises, simulations of protective operations and even included protective driving training with provided vehicles. Training culminated in teams of students conducting an overnight protective detail in the real world, allowing trainees to apply the skills and training that had been acquired and honed throughout the course. The 7-Day Providing Executive Protection Program is a challenging course of training that simulates real world stressors to push trainees towards a standard of excellence. The program provided over 100 hours of training in protective operations and met the criteria to become a certified Personal Protection Specialist in the Commonwealth of Virginia. I also was trained and certified in both CPR and AED operation, useful skills to anyone working in the protection industry. The networking experience alone was well worth the tuition costs and I was afforded the opportunity to meet and train with over 50 other individuals who attended my class. Graduates who excelled in the program were invited to join the Nine Lives Associates, EPIs alumni association, which provides members with continuing education opportunities, access to industry job listings and a plethora of networking opportunities. EPIs Providing Executive Protection Program was hands down the best instruction I have received in my lifetime. I would highly recommend the school to anyone seeking to gain or improve the skills necessary to work in the executive protection field.
