Testing on the patient who arrived in the Emergency Department - TopicsExpress

Testing on the patient who arrived in the Emergency Department shows to be in the “normal range,” and the Ohio Department of Health has recommended no further testing for Ebola is necessary. She will be moved out of isolation, and most likely tested for influenza and strep throat. The woman came into the ARMC Emergency Department late this afternoon saying that she was not feeling well, and said that she had a meeting with a man from Dallas, Tx last week who appeared to be sick. The Centers for Disease Control confirmed the person from Texas named by the woman is not a person of concern.” Adena staff exercised recommended precautions set by the CDC to minimize exposure, and to protect patients and caregivers while caring for the patient. All systems were in place to handle the needs of the patient and protect caregivers and other patients. While we never want to have to deal with something of such a serious nature, it is good to know that we are able to do so skillfully. Our teams are to be commended for their handling of this case this evening and working it to resolution. With increased media about the Ebola virus, people should be aware of the facts concerning transmission of the disease, and who is most at risk. Direct contact is necessary for transmission of Ebola. It is not an airborne illness. Symptoms include: fever, muscle pain, vomiting and bleeding. Information is available on cdc.gov.
