Text of an email just sent to an organic growers coop, in the Uk. I think it sums up what we are doing: "Although organic is better than non-organic, of course, we feel that the real revolution in food, and socially, is coming in the shape of food forests. You, in fact, are in the ideal position to promote the idea of perennial polycultures with your growers and supporters, encouraging the growing of food trees and shrubs, and not only annuals. Obviously growing and eating habits will not change overnight, but our campaign seeks a gradual change to forest based agricultural and horticulture. Most of Europe was woodland before totalitarian agriculture, holding much more carbon in the plants and the soil; a much wider diversity of wildlife above and below the ground, and a wider diversity of food being eaten by our ancestors. We believe that many modern ills could be cured, and the crisises of peak oil & water, climate change, and health care collapse can be tackled in large part by a switch to agroforestry, and all human needs could be better derived from perennial plants. Grain based agriculture was imposed on most peoples to force them into slavery, making it easy for the rulers/conquerors to control the food supply. A handful of companies now control the industrial food supply - we are attempting to share the freedom (and increased health and vitality) that we enjoy, ourselves, from a system of tree based and other perennial horticulture. Conventional organic growing still encourages digging or ploughing, which routinely damages soil communities. Hortiforestry builds soil year upon year, with the health and vitality of the land, soil, food and those who eat it improving perpetually. "
