Texts and the pictures that accompany them were recorded on papyrus or on wall paintings. The subjects of these texts include hymns to the gods, mythological and magical texts, and morturary texts. Other subject matters were biographical and historical texts, scientific premises, including mathematical and medical texts, wisdom texts, and stories. In fact, the oldest version of the Cinderella story, where her name is Rhodopis, has survived. The Book of the Dead is one funerary text that survived over the years. It served to secure a successful passage into the afterlife for the deceased through the spells and images it contained. This text was written in cursive hieroglyphs that were drawn in black ink.
